lol' Keke (born Marcus Lakee Edwards on March 31, 1976) is a rapper from Houston, Texas who is an emcee and member of the Screwed Up Click. He also became one of Houston's most visible rappers, releasing solo albums for Jam Down Entertainment. Lil' Keke has become a well known rapper in Houston and continues to record albums annually. His song Southside was a success in 1998. In 2006, he came out with his single "Chunk Up Tha Deuce" which features Paul Wall and UGK. He currently is signed to Swishahouse Records.
Marcus Leke Edwards, Houston, Texas, USA. This southern rapper grew up in the Herschelwood area of Houston, learning to freestyle with a group of gang friends. He became a founding member of DJ Screw’s Screwed Up Click, making his debut on the DJ’s first commercial release, 3 ’N The Mornin, with the rap ‘Pimp The Pen’. The track became a local hit and established Lil’ Keke as one of the Screwed Up Click’s biggest stars. He went on to appear on numerous releases associated with the rap collective, and signed a solo recording contract with the Texas label Jam Down. His solo debut Don’t Mess Wit Texas was released in 1997. The album went on to sell over 40, 000 copies in Houston alone, and led to its nationwide distribution in a new form under the title The Commission. The follow-up It Was All A Dream was even more successful, but soon afterwards Lil’ Keke parted company with his label. His major label debut, Platinum In Da Ghetto, was released in 2001 by Koch Records.
Lil Keke gained national underground love with his track "Southside" from his 1997 release "Don't Mess Wit Texas". In 2005, Lil' Keke signed to Swishahouse Records. In an interview with HitQuarters at the time, label president and A&R T. Farris said, "He is a legend here in Houston. He plays a big role in the whole style of rap that we make down here."[3] Lil' Keke started out working alongside DJ Screw doing mixtapes.
